Terms of Service
Last updated: April 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the FilmLokr mobile application and the website at filmlokr.com (together, the "Service"). The Service is operated by Neil Bradshaw ("we", "us", "our"), based in Ireland. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
Plain-language summary: FilmLokr is a tool to help you track film rolls and develop film. The development recipes and times we provide are references, not guarantees. You're responsible for how you use the app and for your own photography outcomes. The free tier has limits. Pro is a subscription. You can cancel anytime.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service. By using it, you confirm that you meet this requirement. If you're under 18, you should have permission from a parent or guardian.
2. Your Account
You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. If you sign in with Apple or another identity provider, their terms also apply to that sign-in. You're responsible for activity that occurs under your account.
3. Free and Pro Tiers
The free tier allows up to 5 active rolls and 5 archived rolls, with 1 saved recipe and 1 timer template. Pro unlocks unlimited rolls, unlimited saved recipes and timer templates, saved chemical mixes, and data export.
Pro is available as a monthly or annual subscription. Subscriptions are processed by Apple (on iOS) or Stripe (on web) and are subject to their terms. Prices are shown in the app and may change with notice.
4. Subscriptions and Auto-Renewal
Pro subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before renewal. You can manage or cancel your subscription through your Apple ID settings (iOS) or the web billing portal (if applicable). Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple; we cannot issue them directly.
5. Downgrade and Cancellation
If your Pro subscription lapses and your account exceeds free-tier limits, you'll be asked to choose which 5 active and 5 archived rolls to keep. We preserve your full data for 90 days after cancellation so you can restore access instantly by resubscribing. After 90 days, rolls outside the free tier limits are permanently removed.
6. Development Recipes and Technical Data — Disclaimer
FilmLokr's recipe database is compiled from manufacturer datasheets and community submissions. Development times, dilutions, agitation intervals, temperatures, and other technical data are provided as references. Results depend on many factors we cannot control — your specific chemistry, water quality, equipment, technique, film condition, and storage.
You use the recipes and timers at your own risk. We do not guarantee specific results and are not liable for lost images, ruined film, or damaged materials. Always verify critical settings before processing important work, and consider running tests with expendable film.
7. Darkroom Mode Disclaimer
FilmLokr includes a darkroom mode that shifts the display to red tones. While this is designed to reduce the risk to light-sensitive materials, we cannot guarantee that any device screen is safe for use near photographic paper, undeveloped film, or other light-sensitive media. Test in normal light before relying on darkroom mode, and keep your device at appropriate distance from sensitive materials.
8. Your Content
You retain ownership of all data you put into the Service — your roll notes, frame logs, custom recipes, chemistry entries, and any other content. You grant us a limited licence to store, back up, and display that data within the Service so the app can function. We will not sell, share, or use your content for advertising.
9. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the app
- Use the Service to send spam, malicious code, or illegal content
- Scrape, copy, or redistribute the recipe database in bulk for commercial purposes
- Share your account credentials with others or create accounts on behalf of others without authorisation
- Interfere with the Service's operation or security
10. Intellectual Property
The FilmLokr name, logo, app design, code, and curated content (including the compilation and presentation of the recipe database) are our intellectual property. Individual recipe data sourced from manufacturers remains the property of those manufacturers. Community-submitted recipes remain the property of their contributors.
11. Service Availability
We aim to keep the Service running reliably but make no guarantees about uptime, speed, or continuous availability. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or events outside our control. Core app functionality (timer, recipe database, roll tracking) works offline once the app is installed; only sync and web access require a connection.
12. Changes to the Service
We may add, change, or remove features over time. Features described as "V2" or "planned" may change scope or release timing. If a material change reduces functionality you're paying for, we'll notify you and offer a fair resolution.
13. Termination
You can delete your account at any time from within the app. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, repeatedly abuse the Service, or attempt to harm other users. On termination, your data is handled as described in our Privacy Policy.
14. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
15. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or €50, whichever is greater. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost images, lost film, or lost time.
Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived under Irish or EU law.
16. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Ireland. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Ireland, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence require otherwise.
17. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If changes are material, we'll notify you via email or in-app. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
